The month of May, a 5 month (5+ 2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 14; 1 + 4 = 5), brings us to a time in the year when we can best avail ourselves of opportunities to make positive change in our lives. Five is also a flow number that helps us flow in the direction we’re meant to go. We may suddenly yearn for new experiences, so this is a great time to stretch ourselves and move beyond what we usually do.
The planetary ruler of 5 is Mercury the messenger, overseeing the two signs of Gemini and Virgo. Mercury moves swiftly around the Sun, and its vibratory influence propels us quickly forward. Associated with the element of Air, it helps us gather information, knowledge and understanding along the way. In this energy we can expect swift changes of mind as well as changes in mood.
Five is also concerned with freedom. Freedom comes in many forms. It can be experienced through a change of routine, through travel or simply through engaging in activities that we love. I feel a sense of freedom as I walk along a quiet beach, watching the steady rhythm of the waves as they roll in and break gently on the sand. I also love to learn about the workings of the Universe and experience a sense of wonder as I gaze at the stars in the night sky.
Freedom of expression is equally important to preserve our inner equilibrium. Every act of creativity whether painting a canvas, writing down our deepest thoughts, singing along to a favourite song, or practising meditation, expands our energy field and reaffirms our innate freedom to be fully ourselves.
Huge planetary shifts are also supporting change, and momentum is quickly building. Recently Neptune moved into Aries, where it will be joined by Saturn on May 25th. Next February these two slow-moving planets will conjoin at zero degrees Aries, which is the “world axis point”. This conjunction is an incredibly rare event, so much so that Astrologers are unable to find a time in history when this has happened before.
Saturn is concerned with new growth and new structures, whilst other-worldly Neptune adds a highly spiritual component to the mix. Aries is a Fire sign, so we can expect changes to happen swiftly. We are in a pivotal time of reinvigoration and progress wherein new dreams can become a reality. Finally, the door is being opened to a whole new era.
